Raising awareness
of the 22
daily veteran suicides
NO VETERAN LEFT BEHIND.
our History: MA22 Who?
Ma Deuce Deuce (MA22) was founded by a few Marines and a big beautiful truck. After attending a free 5-day program called Operation Restored Warrior (ORW), Marine veterans John Cohen and Dennis Addesso decided to start their own organization to make successful PTSD recovery programs known. Together they teamed up with local Marine Tom Kiselow and founded Ma Deuce Deuce, MA22. The name, derived from the M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, or “Ma Deuce,” combined with the scariest number in America, “22”. This is the number of veteran suicides in America daily. As we were less a fan of the “take these and call us in 6 months” diagnosis, we set out to find other organizations that provided an outlet to unload post-traumatic stress. We quickly became a hub to connect veterans with restorative resources at no cost to them. Our common objective is to help restore the hearts of veterans facing depression, anxiety, stress and isolation, suicidal thoughts, and trauma from post-traumatic stress disorder. Since our start our team has grown along with our impact all over NJ and some national areas as well. We continue to serve the brotherhood we hold so dear.
In short, we provide a “Get out of the house” service. Some of our local initiatives include taking veterans to Jersey Shore BlueClaws minor league baseball games to prevent isolation and to provide a recreational setting to lead the conversation toward how we can further help. Other outlets include fishing, kayaking, SCUBA, horseback riding, hunting, exotic car rides, and helicopter/small aircraft rides; we held an event with former WWE Superstar Diamond Dallas Page doing DDPY! We teamed up with local kickboxing fitness gym 9Round in Brick, NJ, consistent Ruck iT sponsors and participants, and donated months upon months of free memberships to their gym for veterans and their families. We have assisted in helping vets with utility bills, repairs to their vehicles, and even ensuring Christmas happened for several local families each year of our existence.
MA22 works in preventing veteran suicides as a result of PTSD. MA22 reaches out to male and female veterans of all eras who may be suffering emotionally, physically, or financially as a result of PTSD from their military service.
We offer sporting events, horseback riding, therapeutic painting, fundraisers, and camaraderie while raising funds and awareness.

Our Programs
-
22 kilometer (13.6 miles) ruck march raising awareness of the 22 daily veteran suicides. Participants pay $22, wear a ruck (pack) weighing 22 lbs, and then walk 22 kilometers with their own teams or with Ma22 at a determined site. Prizes for the top 3 individual fundraisers, as well as the top fundraising team name having their team name etched into the Big Ruckin’ Trophy (BRT) for eternity. Past years have included the areas of the Jersey shore and, most recently, the Manasquan reservoir. An after party, when applicable, follows with food, bands, raffle prizes, and twice, the shaving of our President’s beard after a promise to do so after raising $50,000. Although his beard is safe, for now, we have also seen him ruck in a wedding dress! Where there's fun and chaos, there are veterans with smiles.

Held at 9Round Fitness in Brick. NJ. Owners Lisa and Austin Randolph, a veteran family, hold a Kick A$$ event raising funds and awareness through a 30-minute workout. The gym donates in addition to funds raised through campaigns with free sessions for veterans to help alleviate the perils of combat stress.

A fishing initiative to get veterans on boats across the Jersey Shore. Got a boat? We have veterans to take out for a little Vitamin SEA. Each year the number of veterans grows who have hooked gills in freshwater, saltwater, and from a boat or shore. We started with 30 vets in one day in 2019 to over 300 over the summer of 2022! Local boat captains donated their time, fuel, and boats to give our heroes an amazing day at sea.

MA22 has been afforded (6) seats all season long at the Jersey Shore BlueClaws stadium in Lakewood, NJ. The BlueClaws are a minor-league baseball affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Thanks to generous sponsors paying for a seat (about $700 for the year), these seats serve as a great icebreaker to meet new veterans and allow veteran families a free day at the park! Like anything else we touch, the number of veterans benefiting from this outlet grows. We are proud to share that over 300 veterans and their families attended a game in 2022!

The MA22 Christmas toy drive ensures Christmas occurs for veteran families and is one where our community surely opens their hearts and wallets. What started off as a promise to a Marine veteran to battle heroin addiction, promising Christmas would occur for his 6-year-old daughter in 2018, the event has grown into an event that recently sponsored 135 children of local veterans. Christmas lists are collected from the children of local veterans via the Veteran Affairs clinic in Brick, NJ, as well as submitted to MA22 via our website. Gifts purchased through the Amazon wishlist by our community are shipped to Farro’s Tees in Toms River, where they are sorted and picked up before Christmas. Gifts are also collected via drop-off locations like Scott Motor Coach. Alliance Tattoo, Amendment 21, Pure Yoga, Vetwork, Dollar Tree, and several Super Buy Rites in Toms River. The event culminates with free Santa pictures at Farro’s tees. This giving endeavor has prevented suicides and brought veterans into our realm of restoration.
